It was a dominating performance by the East Canton boys track team as it ran away with the Division III regional title at Perry High School.
With five regional champions, and 11 state qualifiers in 10 events, the Hornets amassed 91.5 points to outdistance second-place Smithville (71).
Josh Conrad paced the way for the Hornets with three titles, qualifying to state in four events.
The junior set school and facility records as he won the 800 in 1:55.14.
Claiming the other individual title was Zach McClaskey in the 300 hurdles with a school-record time of 39.0.
East dominated the relay teams, scoring 38 out of a possible 40 points.
The 4x100 consisting of Travis Nelson, Cody Vacco, Mitch Mitchell and Wyatt Deutschman set a school record with a winning time of 43.28.
The foursome of McClaskey, Nathaniel Sundheimer, James McCullough and Conrad broke the facility record, winning the 4x400 in 3:22.6.
On the opening day of regionals, the 4x800 claimed the first East Canton title in 8:05.06. The squad consisted of Colt Hemphill, Demetrius Snellenberger, James McCullough and Conrad.
The 4x200 consisting of Sundheimer, Vacco, Mitchell and McClaskey broke the school record as it finished as the regional runner-up with a time of 1:29.92.
Conrad also qualified to Columbus in the high jump, clearing 6'1 for third place.
Finishing fourth and and grabbing the final qualifying spot were Mitchell in the 200 (22.44) and the long jump with a school ecord 21'8.5, and Joel Berger in the 110 hurdles (15.3).
McClaskey just missed getting out as he finished fifth in the 110 hurdles (15.42).
Hemphill was sixth in the 800 (2:00.77), Sundheimer was seventh in the 400 (51.88), Cody Johnson was seventh in the discus (137'8), and Berger was eighth in both the 300 hurdles (43.46) and the pole vault (12').
"Eleven qualifiers in 10 events are both records for the Hornets," stated Head Coach Tom Loy.
"And five regional event titles are the most ever in school history. Plus five school records were set. The boys did amazing things today."
This is East Canton's fourth regional track and field title.
The 2017 State Track and Field Championships will be held this Friday and Saturday, June 2-3, at Jesse Owens Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University.
Sixteen qualify in each event. Here is how East Canton ranks based on regionals:
