Major Darrel Anderson of the Stark County Sheriff's Department explained the workings of the MARCs radio system at the Pike Township meeting on June 5.
Anderson noted the system is being updated after the successful renewal of the sales tax in May. He said the new system will be ready to test some time late next year. Anderson fielded questions as to how the system would benefit entities in the township.
Melscheimer School Restoration chairperson Nancy Snyder reported the alumni association held a reunion at the school May 21, and people were very complimentary about the progress being made on the building.
Joel Bender of Whitacre Myers Insurance company, which covers the township through the Ohio plan, went over updates on the policy and stated the premium is down $219 from last year.
Road supervisor Mark Pahanish reported his crew has been mowing roads, ditching, and installing culverts. He said new drive tires are needed for a truck at a cost of approximately $1800. Trustees agreed to this purchase.
Cemetery Sexton Molly Murphy reminded residents that artificial flowers are not allowed during mowing season, unless they are a stationary saddle.
A notice was received asking for donations for the East Sparta Fire Department's raffle at the homecoming June 22-24. Donations can be gift cards, logo items, cash, etc. All donations will have the names of donors announced. Trustees made a motion to hire seasonal help, and announced the next clean-up day will be Saturday, June 17, from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Items need to be manageable. Yard waste should go to Canton Township.
The next regular meeting will be Monday, June 19, 7:30 p.m., at the township building.
