The Bunco Babes met Oct. 12 at Crossroads Restaurant. The hostess was Dolly Cairns. Prize winners were Judy Carrick, Bernice Heavlin and Betty Walker. The "Babes" will meet again on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at Crossroads with Joan Stallman as hostess.
The "Jolly Eight's Card Club met at Crossroads Restaurant for lunch followed by euchre on Oct. 12. The hostess for the day was Barb Harding. Prizes were won by Barb Lung, Lois Bowman and Margaret Walters. The next meeting of the group will be Nov. 11 with Lois Bowman serving as the hostess.
Twenty years ago this week: Florida Canton South Everyone had a great time and the weather was beautiful on the Canton South AARP trip. We went to Rock Hill, S.C., St. Augustine, Fla., Kennedy Space Center, Kissimmee, Key Largo in Old Town and the Walt Disney World Complex. We spent three day's at Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios and the Magic Kingdom. At Silver Springs, we toured the 350-acre nature theme park. The following day we went on a guided tour of historic Savannah and once again returned to Rock Hill, S.C.

Happy Halloween! It's Trunk or Treat time at Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church on Oct. 30 from 3-5 p.m. This is a safer way to celebrate Halloween. Adults, decorate your trunks to show the kids how much fun it is to go from trunk to trunk for their treats. Keep the decorations funny, not scary. We don't want to see a child crying because of being scared. Awards will be given for the favorite trunk at the end of the event.

Sunday brunch will be served at the Foltz Community Center on Oct. 23. Visit from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and enjoy a variety of breakfast and lunch entrees including meats, salads, side dishes, desserts, drink and so much more. The cost is $12 for adults, $6 for children ages 3-10 and free for ages 2 and under. Invite family, friends, church members, neighbors or someone you just met to come out to the Sunday Brunch. It's book sale time again at the library on Oct. 20, 21 and 22 during library hours. Enter the Foltz Community Center, turn to the right after double doors and you are there. A teens create program is held at the library with activities including music, art, STEM, snap circuits and more. Programs will be held Oct. 27, Nov. 3, 10, 17, 22 and 29. Trinity Lutheran Church is selling delicious homemade apple butter. Proceeds from their sale will go to Andrew Swier who has hospital bills from a health crisis in June of this year. The Magnolia Historical Society is taking orders for frozen apple dumplings. Call 330-866-9744 for more information. On Sunday, Oct. 23, they will be serving the hot apple dumplings at Taggart's in Magnolia from 11 a.m. until close (or until they run out).
The Sandy Valley Community Park will hold Boo in the Park on Saturday, Oct. 22 from 3-5 p.m. Admission will be a can of food per car that will be donated to Helping Hands Network. This year's event will include a jack-o-lantern contest (bring your pre-carved pumpkin), a cake walk, costume contest, hot dogs, chips, cookies and refreshments. There will be treat bags for all attendees.
The Sandy Valley Eagles will hold Mexican Night on Wednesday, Oct. 26 from 58 p.m. This event is open to the public.
Trick or Treat in the Village of East Sparta will be held Sunday, Oct. 30 from 5-6:30 p.m. followed by a party at the East Sparta fire station from 6:30-9 p.m.
Trick or Treat in Magnolia will be held Monday, Oct. 31 from 6-7 p.m. followed by the Lions' Club Bonfire in the park.
This month's Hometown Hero is Billy Kesling. Please remember Billy in your thoughts and prayers as he trains to become a U.S. Marine.
